Hone Your Studio Chops & Learn "How it's Done"

  Hands-on Production in a

  Pro Recording Studio

What's Different About Our Studio Chops Band Program?

'Keeping it real' has been our theme & motto for years.  Instead of hyping how we can 'train' you to be a Rockstar (which really isn't possible & you know that), we rather focus on what we CAN do.  That is, empower you with real-life skills in the recording studio that you would need, if you continued on to a path in music as an artist, producer or engineer.  The discipline of getting things done professionally in the studio, is what we seek to pass onto you. Some of the takeaways from our program include:

how to run a recording session

how to write songs

how to arrange songs

how to decide on instrumentation

how to track

how to produce

how to use effects

how to mix

how to master

how to decide on track order

Be Impressed But Not Intimidated

We are self-admitted gearheads here at Mojo Music.  As a result, our Recording Studio is equipped with some of the best world-class gear that have been used on almost every major album that you've ever heard.  Neumann, AKG, Sennheiser, SSL, Focusrite, Universal Audio.....these and many more cool pieces of gear are here & ready for your use.  Also featured in our studio is a gorgeous Yamaha G2 Grand Piano, a 1959 Hammond C2 Organ with Leslie Speaker, a vintage Gretsch Drum Kit with a massive Sabian HHX Cymbal Array, a staggering selection of classic guitar amps, pedals, & musical instruments - all wired up & ready to go!  For the complete gear list, go here.

In recent years, there has been a trend towards recording albums in comfortable & more intimate spaces, featuring smaller rooms, open-concept layouts, warmer colours, and 'vibey' decors.  You will find this here at Mojo.  Although our equipment list is impressive, our environment is far from the intimidating & sterile feel of most larger and conventional recording studios.  We house the same capabilities as the 'big boys', but you'll feel compelled to stay, learn & create at Mojo!

Our Agenda

We offer direction, guidance, coaching & act as a facilitator, much like a producer would in a real-life project. Although the song creation & recording process follows a series of logical stages as a framework, nothing in the real-world is written in stone.  Creativity can all of a sudden turn in a completely different direction & you have to go with that.  With a healthy respect for this, we discarded a traditional rigid curriculum in favour of a philosophy of teaching to allow creativity to flow in the direction it wants.

All participants will take turns wearing the many 'hats' required in the Recording Studio to receive the most effective cross-training.  Moving mics around, getting sounds, setting up an amp, hands on the console, controlling the transport, tweaking effects, etc. - you WILL be kept busy & everybody pulls their weight!

Our mandate is to instill professionalism into all students that pass through our Studio Chops Band Program & set you on the right path to continue on your pursuit of this discipline, whether it be just a hobby or a career path.
